Spotlight on a solicitor
In this edition of intouch, we caught up with Ruth Nippers from Chadwick Lawrence LLP, to discover why she was always likely to end up on the right side of the law.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Police officer / Solicitor.
What attracted you to conveyancing?
I initially wanted to be a Criminal Solicitor but I enjoyed the Conveyancing seat during training. I stepped into a fast paced, challenging environment where no two days are ever the same. I gained an interest in the life of a Conveyancing Solicitor due to the varied work involved in each transaction. People often think Conveyancing is quite simple. However, from a legal perspective, it can be complicated with many pitfalls and matters to investigate for the benefit of the clients and lenders involved.
If you could trade places with anyone in the world, who would it be, and why?
One of the Royals, maybe Kate Middleton. But only for a short period of time. It would be interesting to see what life as a Royal would be like.
What’s your proudest moment?
Being admitted on to the Roll of Solicitors.
Who do you most admire within the law sector?
Police officers patrolling the streets; they play a vital role in keeping our communities safe.
If there was one thing you could change about conveyancing, what would it be?
Referral fees. I think clients should be referred to solicitors and firms due to recommendations rather than because brokers/estate agents receive a fee for doing so.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
The Philippines for the beautiful beaches and excellent scuba diving!
Finally, what’s your favourite hobby and why should we all give it a go?
Scuba diving. You go into a different world. I cannot explain the feeling you get from swimming alongside a whale shark or seeing the sun filter down on the beautiful colours of the corals and the various sea life.
